A huge armadillo walks across a rocky escarpment, its banded shell striped in green, red, cream and lavender. Miners in hard hats climb the shell with picks, dig small doorways into it and cross a wooden footbridge laid over the middle bands. A tiny ladder-and-lift shaft runs down the dark head scales beside the long pink ear. Pale flowers and coral-coloured mushrooms sprout from the shell, and a banded tail curls away at the left. Around the animal, tall cliffs in orange, pink and yellow are carved with cave doors, an arched bridge and small figures on ledges, with spongy corals and ferns filling the gaps. The distinct shell bands and the bright rock layers separate the picture into easy colour strips.
