A single artichoke rises from a paved crossroads, its petals painted teal, coral, violet and gold. A glass greenhouse sits among the inner petals with a gardener tending potted plants, a blue-roofed hut is tucked between leaves, and a worker on a ladder hauls a wooden barrel near the top. Two people plane a plank on a broad green leaf beside the thick maroon stem. Around it, canal-lined fields are laid out like slices: sunflowers, blue flax, red amaranth, wheat sheaves, pumpkins, tomatoes and purple bean pods. Water wheels turn at the channel edges, and open-fronted sheds hold barrels and soil bins. Each field has its own crop and colour, so the pieces sort by planting.
