Autumn Valley Express Crossing the Viaduct

An autumn valley seen from above, where a steam train crosses a stone viaduct onto a timber trestle, its red and blue carriages curving out of the trees. Forests of orange, scarlet and violet cover the slopes, snow-capped peaks stand along the horizon, and ruined towers crown two crags. A river runs white over falls beneath the bridge, past a watermill and a smaller arched crossing. Stone cottages with smoking chimneys cluster in three hamlets, a white church stands among the trees, and cattle and deer graze the pastures. The track loops away through two tunnel mouths toward a small station at the lower right, ploughed fields stepping up the far hillside. The pale river and rails cut clean lines through all that leaf colour.
