A blue jay perches on a thick branch among autumn trees, with a violet crest, a cream face, a rosy breast and wings layered in blue, teal and violet feathers. Tiny foragers fill the bird: some collect acorns in baskets on its back, one plants a sapling on a small grass patch, and others carry a basket of red berries along the wing. A ladder rests against its leg. Mushrooms, flowers and a pale feather sprout from its head and shoulders. Around it, red, gold and green leaves surround trunks with hollow knots full of acorns, baskets hang from ropes, and a rope bridge crosses to a nest. A small red bird sits at lower left. The layered feather rows and leaf colours make a rich spread of pieces.
