Buttons in Every Shape and Color

A dense carpet of sewing buttons fills the frame from corner to corner in wood tones, primary reds and blues, soft pastels, and patterned fabrics. Most are simple rounds pierced with two or four holes, but stars, hearts, a leaf, and small flower shapes break up the circles, and a handful are shaped like a cat face, an owl, or a fish. Surface patterns vary too: polka dots, stripes, plaid, wood grain, a stamped crest, and an engraved flower sit close together. Warm browns and tans dominate one corner while brighter reds, blues, and pinks cluster elsewhere, keeping no single color in charge of the whole. Every button overlaps its neighbors slightly, so edges tuck under one another with barely a sliver of pale background showing through. The sheer number of distinct shapes turns this pile into hundreds of small pieces, each one easy to recognize on its own.
