A chrysalis hangs from a thick twisted rope across the top of the picture, a blue knot at its stem, its pale green body splashed with plum, coral and yellow spots. Two workers stand at the top holding the line, a ladder and a wooden walkway lead to a small doorway in the shell, and a climber rides a slim rope down its side. Yellow mushrooms and blue fans grow on it. Around it, a ravine drops away on all sides. Rope bridges run between the cliff walls, timber houses with tiled roofs look out from the left and right, and a blue stream winds below with small boats. Terraces are filled with square dye vats in blue, gold and red, bolts of cloth, berry bushes and trees in orange, blue and green. Each dye vat and bridge makes a distinct piece.
