Fossil Hunters Deep in the Cave

A rainbow-walled cavern opens into a honeycomb of ledges, bridges, and scaffolds where fossil crews work in hard hats and coveralls. Coiled ammonites glow in orange and blue veins of rock, one split open beside a ribbed marine skeleton and a stray white bone wedged in the stone. Lanterns in amber, teal, and pink swing from hooks, lighting tables where diggers sort chips of shell into maps and sample bags. Rope ladders and a swaying plank bridge link upper alcoves to the crystal-lined floor below, where a cluster of crates and geode shards waits to be logged. Every team works its own patch of wall, absorbed in its own find, unbothered by the next group a few steps away. The cave holds no single center, only a chain of separate discoveries strung along its glittering seams, each one already its own small piece waiting to be lifted free.
