A glass-roofed shopping arcade runs back to a stone archway, its iron ribs bright against the sky. Shopfronts line both sides: a blue bookshop with window racks of coloured spines, a café under a red-striped awning, a tea room and a florist banked with buckets of flowers. A hanging sign juts out at the left with a spiral stair climbing behind it, and a large white clock hangs opposite above a wooden staircase. A tiered fountain plays at the centre of a tiled floor, ringed by flower beds and clipped trees in planters. People sit at café tables with cups and cakes, others cross the tiles or lean on the balconies, where ferns and trailing plants spill from the rails. Tile pattern, glass ribs and shopfront colour give three separate systems to follow.
