Heap of Autumn Gourds and Squashes

A harvest pile fills the frame corner to corner with pumpkins, gourds, and squashes of every shape. Round orange pumpkins sit beside small white ones, deep purple squash, and a striped melon in blue and cream. Long curved butternuts in tan and peach lie next to crookneck gourds with swan-like necks, warty green-and-yellow skins, and slender green zucchini. Some rinds are smooth, others speckled or ribbed with fine cream dots, and a single brown acorn peeks out near the middle. Stems of every color, from dried brown to bright green, poke up between the bodies at odd angles. The palette runs warm throughout, orange, gold, and rust broken up by patches of cream, purple, and olive, so that no single shape or color ever repeats in quite the same spot twice.
