Heap of Colorful Padlocks

Padlocks of every size and finish are piled together so tightly that not one patch of background shows through. Square, round, and heart-shaped bodies sit in red, yellow, blue, green, teal, purple, and pink, next to plainer ones in brass, bronze, and rusted iron. Keyholes and hasp plates face every which way, and steel shackles loop and overlap between the bodies like a tangle of wire. A few round combination dials break up the crowd with their printed number rings, and one gold lock even carries a small embossed keyhole crest. Some bodies show scratches, dents, or a coat of rust that has spread from the hinge outward, while others still look brand new. The mix of shapes keeps repeating without ever settling into rows, so no two neighboring locks quite match.
