Koi Pond and Red Bridge Garden

A stream winds through a garden of cherry blossom and clipped pines, spanned by a red arched bridge with black posts. Koi in orange, white and gold turn in the clear water among lily pads, water lilies and flat stepping stones. A thatched teahouse with paper screens and a raised wooden deck sits on the left bank beneath a weeping cherry, carved stone lanterns standing on the moss beside it. Bamboo crowds the far left, a maple in autumn red leans into the front corner, and irises, azaleas and pink blossom fill the borders. Behind the bridge a small waterfall drops over grey boulders into the pool. On the right bank a man in a wide hat kneels at a low table, trimming a bonsai beside an open shed. Water, stone and blossom each hold their own colour, so the garden separates into clean bands.
