Two copper stills, green with patina, stand inside an open timber barn where limoncello is being made, their pipes running into a copper collecting pot. Tables are crowded with bottles of bright yellow liqueur, bundles of mint, basil, rosemary and yellow flowers, small jars of spice and a pair of pruning shears. Shelves along the stone wall hold more bottles, jars and a hanging ladle beside two tall windows. On the open side, an old woman and a younger one in aprons stir a wooden tub of lemon peel and petals with a long paddle. Beyond them, three white-bearded men pick lemons into wicker baskets in a sunny grove, where a stone path winds toward rolling hills, cypress trees and a glowing sun. The dim copper workshop and the bright yellow grove meet at the timber posts, giving the picture two halves that are easy to tell apart.
