Mailroom in a Stone Tower

A vaulted stone hall works as a mailroom, its ribs and arches climbing toward a spiral staircase that winds up past galleries of books. Brass pneumatic tubes run across the ceiling and down the piers, glass capsules glowing at their joints. The left wall is a honeycomb of pigeonholes holding sealed envelopes marked with coloured wax and stamps; a wooden ladder leans against the racks, and a machine of brass gears and drums stands beside a desk with an inkwell and quill. Parcels wrapped in kraft paper stack on the flagstones and on a trolley, canvas sacks slumped between them. A leather satchel with an owl badge hangs at the front. Clocks, a painted map, a scale and a writing desk fill the right corner. Stone grey and paper brown split the hall cleanly.
