Maple and Chestnut Leaves in Autumn

Maple, chestnut, birch, and ginkgo leaves pile together with no gap between them, each shape outlined in black so the layers stay readable even where three or four leaves cross. Deep plum and violet leaves sit next to lime green ones, while a star-pointed maple glows bright red near the center and a pale cream oak leaf floats among the darker tones. A palmate chestnut leaf spreads seven lobes in burnt orange just above it, and a scatter of small red berries peeks out from behind a green leaf near the right edge. Veins run through every leaf in a slightly different pattern, thin and straight on some, thick and branching on others, giving each one its own texture despite the shared palette of red, gold, and green. The crowded overlap turns the whole surface into a field of separate, easily distinguished pieces.
