Mermaid Resting in the Coral Lagoon

A mermaid lies across the picture with her head at the upper left, her long blue and gold hair full of coral, sea stars and anemones. Scale by scale, her tail sweeps round to the right in pink, lilac and green, ending in a wide striped fin. Tiny people live on her: musicians play on a round stage beside her waist, a ladder leans against her shell top, cottages sit on her tail, and two picnics are tucked into her curls. Around her curve pale pebble shores and blue pools, where rowing boats drift among kelp and small fish. Coral reefs fill the corners, and a stone arch opens at the right. Her scales and the curling shoreline give every region its own look.
