Norwegian Fjord Fishing Village

Rows of timber houses in red, yellow, and blue climb the rocky shore of a Norwegian fjord, their steep gray roofs catching the afternoon light. Below them, a long wooden pier holds a fleet of fishing boats named Søstern, Anna, and Lillehav, their decks stacked with rope, buoys, and wooden crates marked Fisk and Silde. Coiled lines, barrels, and hanging nets crowd the dock boards, while pots of orange, pink, and violet flowers spill over the railings in front of the houses. Beyond the harbor, dark granite peaks streaked with snow rise around a calm blue channel dotted with small rocky islands and a pair of white lighthouses. Gulls and a puffin wheel overhead or perch on the cliffs, and a scattering of pine trees clings to the lower slopes. Every house along the row keeps its own color, so the waterfront reads like a string of easily distinguished neighbors.
