A milliner's shop under the sign The Feathered Nest Millinery. Hats fill every surface and hang from the ceiling — wide brims trimmed with roses and feathers, straw boaters with ribbon, cloches in teal and pink — while headless mannequins model finished pieces with scarves and beads. Cabinets of stacked hat boxes in mint, rose and gold climb both walls, labelled Chapeaux de Rêve and Floral Fancy Hats, and rails of ribbon in every colour run along the counter. A gilt mirror hangs between the cabinets, a treadle sewing machine sits under bolts of fabric, and a brass chandelier lights the room. At the right a shopkeeper in a print dress reaches to a shelf. The stacked boxes, ribbon rails and hat brims each cluster by colour, giving the eye plenty of footholds.
