Redwood Trunk Homes Above the Ferny Stream

A redwood trunk runs diagonally across the whole picture, its bark scaled in coral and rust plates and its purple roots gripping a mossy bank. Tiny people live on it: a woman hangs washing outside a round wooden door, a climber carries a basket up a ladder, two workers haul on a rope, a gardener waters ferns on a broad branch, and a carpenter hammers on a plank platform near a round window. Yellow and violet bracket mushrooms and red bell flowers hang from the bark. Teal and gold foliage fans out at the top, and fallen logs cross streams full of lily pads. Orange and magenta bushes and rounded stones fill the banks. The trunk's bark plates form a rich pattern that makes each region easy to tell from the next.
