A phoenix sleeps curled in a woven nest of brown twigs and green ribbons, its head tucked down with a closed eye and a yellow beak. The plumage runs in bands of orange, yellow, blue and purple, and its long tail trails around the nest in green, magenta and orange feathers marked with peacock eyes. Villages have grown on it: a cluster of red-roofed houses sits on the orange back beneath a teal tree with pink blossoms, a second hamlet climbs the blue wing, and a third perches along a tail feather. A tiny castle crowns the crest and a small turret rests on the beak. Mushrooms dot the feathers. Outside the nest, pastel houses, domes and church spires crowd close. The feather bands make clean colour zones for sorting pieces.
