Smooth Pebbles Covering the Ground

Hundreds of smooth river pebbles pack the frame edge to edge, each stone a slightly different oval, egg, or flattened disc in rust red, mustard yellow, slate gray, sage green, dusty lavender, or cream. A few carry faint speckles or hairline cracks, while most are flat blocks of color outlined thinly from their neighbors. Sizes range from small chips wedged into gaps to larger rocks anchoring whole sections, giving the pile a naturally tumbled, riverbed look. The palette leans earthy and muted, warmed by ochre and rust, cooled by gray and teal, with occasional brighter accents. There is no sky, no water, and no far edge here, only the dense texture of a beach seen straight down. With every pebble similar in shape but distinct in color, sorting this one becomes a matter of tone as much as form.
