Sweets Shop Beneath Painted Arches

A long hall of tiled arches stretches back toward tall arched windows, colored lanterns strung overhead in yellow, teal, and pink glowing softly against the geometric patterns covering every wall. Copper pots simmer on a small stove to one side, steam rising while a woman in a purple headscarf stirs the pot and hands a taste to another beside her. Down the counter, women in patterned robes arrange trays of golden pastries, cookies, and rolled sweets, plating them for a gloved hand reaching in from the foreground to gather pistachios from a woven basket. More trays of baklava and stuffed pastries crowd the tables further along, and figures move between them under the glow of the lamps. Sunlight from the tall windows lights the far end of the hall. Each tray holds its sweets in its own tidy cluster, ready to be sorted piece by piece.
