A thimble lies on its side in a round hall, its crown covered in coloured patches with ring-shaped dimples, and a border of gold scrolls around the edge. Needles and scissors stick out among the dimples, and bluebells and yellow star flowers grow there. On top, a tent of patterned cloth shelters a spinning wheel where three people work, with ladders leaning on both sides. At the open rim, a group pulls a thick rope of thread through the hole. A ring balcony circles the thimble, with shelves of spools, looms, tailors at their tables, rolled fabric and long ribbons draped from the upper floors. The coloured patches and ring-shaped dimples give the thimble a clear pattern and make its surface easy to read.
