Three Weavers At Matching Looms

Inside a domed yurt lit by a round skylight, three women in white embroidered tunics sit at upright looms weaving matching red and blue diamond-patterned rugs. Each works methodically at her own frame, threading dyed wool through the taut warp while partially finished carpets hang below the loom bars. Loose piles of red, gold, blue and purple wool lie heaped on the plank floor, and baskets beside the looms hold neatly wound skeins ready for use. Rolled pattern scrolls rest on low tables nearby, alongside spools of thread and a scattering of spindles. The plain wooden floor and bare lattice walls keep the focus on the three weavers and their looms. Lined up in a row, the three unfinished rugs already show how the same pattern breaks into workable sections.
