Velo and Vapeur Bicycle Cafe

Warm light fills a corner café that doubles as a bicycle workshop. A red step-through bike and a green frame hang on the cream wall beside framed cycling maps and route diagrams; blue bikes hang on the coral wall opposite. Coloured glass pendants and a string of bulbs cross the ceiling under a painted sign reading Velo & Vapeur. The counter runs the length of the left side with a chrome espresso machine, grinders, drippers, kettles and a shelf of mismatched mugs, ending in a curved case of croissants, tarts and buns. Customers fill the tables at the back by the glazed door, cyclists passing outside, and a man in green reads alone at the right beside a parked bike. Patterned floor tiles set a steady grid under all that clutter.
