A village provisions shop with a chalkboard behind the counter listing the day's baguettes, cheese plates and picnic hampers. Two open wicker hampers sit on the counter fitted with cutlery, plates and checked cloths, a made sandwich and rolls beside them and a brass till at the end. Baskets of baguettes, seeded loaves and round sourdough fill the left foreground below wedges and wheels of cheese — blue-veined, waxed red, soft white rind — laid out on a checked cloth. Shelves of jam, honey, pickle and chutney jars climb both walls, wine and oil bottles ranked at the right. Bowls of apples, pears, grapes, berries and oranges crowd the front table. Geraniums and ferns sit on the sills. Bread, cheese and jars each keep to their own shelf, sorting the shop for you.
