Weaving Palm Leaf Hats And Baskets

On the open floor of a wooden pavilion strung with woven hats and patterned bags, five women weave palm leaves into baskets and wide-brimmed hats. One shapes a dark woven bowl in her lap, another works a fan of green fronds into a basket base, and a woman in yellow finishes a straw hat's crown. Bundles of fresh green palm leaves and dried golden strands lie across the floor mats, ready for use. Overhead, rows of finished hats and woven bags hang in a rainbow of dyed patterns, and a parrot perches on the rafter beam. Hibiscus and orchid blooms frame the doorway, beyond which palm trees, distant houses and hills fill the view. Each hat drying along the rafter already carries the ring pattern a solver will need to follow.
