Whale Drifting Above a Crowded Old Town

A great whale with a golden head, lilac back and teal sides glides over an old town of tiled roofs, towers and domes. Its pale belly is striped with throat pleats, and coral flippers stretch out like sails, wrapped in vines. A whole neighbourhood grows along its back: a lane of narrow townhouses, a red and white lighthouse, a windmill near the tail, stepped vegetable terraces, purple mushrooms and a bright teal tree rooted behind the eye. A gazebo with a footbridge sits on one flipper, and small balloons float up from the back. Beneath it the real streets show golden onion domes, a round arena, bell towers, courtyards and canals. The whale's smooth purple and orange shapes stand out clearly from the busy rooftops.
