Terraced fields carved into brown and green hillsides fall away toward a wall of snow-capped peaks under a sky brushed with pink clouds. Purple crocus flowers carpet the slopes in dense, low-growing bands, and four women in richly patterned shawls kneel among them, plucking crimson saffron threads and dropping them into painted clay bowls. A fifth woman works alone further up the terraces, her woven baskets already brimming with the spice. Earrings, bangles, and forehead marks catch the light as the harvesters bend close to the flowers, their bright orange, blue, and teal garments standing out against the muted earth tones of the terraces. Loose stones and a scattering of wildflowers in cyan and pink edge the foreground. The terraced rows step down the mountainside in bands, each one holding its own stretch of purple ready to be picked apart.
